Micro organism in our bodies and food
WAYS THROUGH WHICH MICRO ORGANISMS ENTER OUR BODY
Abrasion of Skin: When there is any cut or abrasion on the skin, germs gain entrance into the body. Example is bacillus tetani that causes tetanus.
Mouth: Pathogenic organism for cholera, tuberculosis and dysentery enter the body by drinking or eating infected water or food respectively.
Nose: Microorganisms that cause influenza, pneumonia, mumps and tuberculosis are inhaled into the body through the nostrils.
Umbilical cord: If infected instrument are used to cut the umbilical cord or dirty materials are used in dressing it, germs gain entrance into the body. Example is Bacillus tetani that causes tetanus.
Placenta: Microorganisms that causes syphilis, measles and small pox enter the foetus through the placenta, if the mother is infected.
Urogenital tract: Microorganisms that cause gonorrhea, Syphilis,Aids etc enter the body through urogenital tract during sexual intercourse.
Vi. Moist Unbroken Skin: Hookworm for example can enter the body through moist skin.
Vii. Insect bite: Malaria, Yellow fever, sleeping sickness, river blindness are introduced to the body through the bites of infected insects.
Ix. Mammalian bite: Microorganisms that cause plague, raises and lassa fever are introduced into the body by the bite of infected rats and dogs respectively.
