TYPES OF FLOWER
Flowers can be classified based on the ovary in relation to the floral leaves calyx ,corolla and stamen.
Based on this, there are three types of flowers, they are:
In hypogynous flower, the ovary is placed at a level on the receptacle so that it lies higher than the calyx, corolla and stamen. That is the floral leaves remain below the ovary. The ovary is said to be superior. Example of flowers includes: Hibiscus.
EPIGYNOUS FLOWERS: Here the ovary is completely embedded in the receptacle and the floral leaves lie above it. Flower with same arrangement are said to be epigenous. The ovary is said to be inferior. Examples of flowers include sunflower, guava.
PERIGYNOUS FLOWER: Here the ovary lies in a depressed position of the receptacle, so that the calyx, corolla and stamen remain almost at the same level with vary, such flowers are said to be perigynous and the ovary half inferior. Example include rose flower
